A partition, or bulkhead, is one of the most practical upfit accessories available for your work van. A partition is a divider between the cab and cargo area, which keeps the driver and passengers safe from shifting equipment. On top of that, a partition helps to distinguish a specific area for all of your tools and equipment, which will keep your van more organized. And when you add accessories to the partition, the organizational benefits can really add up! Because the partition acts as a barrier between the driver and the equipment, it can provide significant noise reduction and easier climate control in the cab area.

So now that you know why you should get a partition for your work van, you may need a little help deciding what type of partition is best for you. There are many different types of partitions on the market and deciding which one is right for you can be overwhelming. This blog will walk you through the different types of partitions and their features.

Different Types of Partitions

There are four main partition styles: solid, perforated, hinged, and wire mesh. Most full-size vans require three panels of partitions, so to craft a partition that works best for you, you can mix and match many of the styles. Here’s a closer look at each of the different types of partitions:

  • solid and perforated partitionsSolid – A solid partition is pretty self-explanatory. It’s a solid steel door (fixed or hinged) that is placed behind the driver and passenger seats. Many work van owners choose to install a solid panel directly behind the driver’s seat and use perforated panels for the remaining areas.
  • Perforated – Solid on the bottom and perforated on the top, a perforated partition is ideal to install for the middle and passenger-side panels. The holes on the top of the partition allow for the driver to see the cargo in the back of the van and properly use the mirrors while driving.
  • Hinged – If it’s important for you to be able to easily access your cargo from the front of the van, a hinged partition is for you. A hinged partition acts just like a lockable door to allow pass through access to the cargo area.
  • wire mesh partitionWire Mesh – A wire mesh partition provides maximum visibility, yet still protects the passengers from shifting cargo. Low profile and lightweight, a wire partition is an economical option for your work van.
